The Dukan Diet was first developed in France, and has drawn a great deal of attention to itself. This program claims that it provides a personalized and unique way to lose weight through the assistance of your own coach. Its official website is quite impressive and is a portal for subscribers to take advantage of a number of features, such as recipes, weight loss tips, and chat rooms.

The Dukan Diet is a high-protein diet, similar to the Atkins Diet. The diet has 100 permitted foods that are most easily incorporated into your daily diet by following Dukan Diet recipes. This diet has four phases: attack, cruise, consolidation, and stabilization. There are different rules for dieting at each phase with the goal to get one to lose weight then keep it off over the long-term.

It was created by a man named Pierre Dukan, who frequently signs on to the official website to chat with the diet’s users online. The site also features a weight loss contest, to encourage people to use its rules to the letter, and to remain motivated. Of course, the website also makes it very easy to buy the Dukan Diet Recipe Book.

One of the reasons that this program has gained a great deal of attention over the last year or so is that it was the choice of Kate Middleton when she was working to lose weight for her wedding with Prince William.

When you subscribe to the Dukan Diet, you gain access to an “online slimming coach”. Upon reading the material available on the website, it was difficult to determine whether or not this is an actual person who is available to answer questions and provide suggestions, advice, and guidance. It may simply be a term for the site itself.

As a dieter subscribes, he or she is required to answer eleven questions. They seem simple enough. However, once the registration is complete, then you are required to complete another eighty questions. Based on the answers provided by this massive questionnaire, a “personal slimming assessment” is provided, which helps you to understand where you do well with your weight loss, and where your struggles lie.

It also provides you with a plan to help you to achieve your weight loss goal and help you to maintain it once you’ve arrived.

Unavailable on the website was whether the personal slimming assessment is digitally generated using a program or whether a real person considers your answers and creates the assessment for you.

Although many people have found this diet to result in fairly fast weight loss, the Dukan Diet has also been given the slang name “The Bitchy Wife Diet”. This is likely due to the mood swings that can occur from removing most sugars from the diet and relying primarily on proteins for sustenance. Also, many people who have tried the Dukan Diet have found it difficult to follow for too long due to its dietary restrictions.

  • It’s easy to register online
  • The official website features several user testimonials
  • Fast weight loss is possible, if that’s your goal
  • Diet is restrictive and is difficult to follow long-term
  • The official website doesn’t make it clear whether the coaching and assessment is provided by an automated service or an actual human expert in the subject
  • The monthly cost could not be found on the website at the time of this review (without actually signing up)

I have been “trying” to follow the Duken diet for about a month now. I have lost about 6 lbs. I followed the first phase of “attack” (pure protein) to the tee and I did it for 7 days instead of the 5 and I only lost 3 lbs. Then in the second phase you are supposed to do every second day pure protien and every other day protein and vegetables. For me I am basically eating protein and veggies every day as I was getting so sick of eating just a peice of meat with cottage cheese for every meal. I will say I have not had one slice of bread in a month, which is huge for me. I have cheated on the the odd day though and had a handful of low fat crisps here and there and the odd peice of licorice. Overall I am MUCH better then I used to be with my eating, so that is posative, but I am finding it very hard to stick to the diet exactly has he suggests.

Did you find that your hair fell out a lot while you were doing this? I just finished reading that this could happen and it has me nervous.

My hair didn’t fall out, but I found that my teeth started getting very sensitive. I wonder if there are side effects to eating this way.

You could be right. I found that my hair and fingernails didn’t really grow while I was on this diet. I know that sounds weird, but the whole time I was on Dukan (about 4 months), I didn’t have to trim my fingernails! I filed them a little bit to smooth out chips, but that’s it.

I have lost 30 lbs in 3 months on Dukens. It is a hard diet to stick to, but if you follow it meticulously and obey all his “rules” it is an amazing diet and the end result is one where you will eventually be able to eat however you want and not gain the weight back. It’s a long road, but if you are dedicated the rewards are well worth it.

This diet was almost impossible to stick to. It worked great for the first week, but beyond that it was a game of subbing and cheating. If you don’t like food and you just don’t care what you eat, this would be easy. But I’d rather not be so restricted that I may as well be in prison.

I competelety agree with this. No fruit for how many weeks/months? Really? And all that non fat dairy with aspartame and artificial sweeteners cannot be healthy. Seems a bit too restrictive for me. I love my fruit and would rather eat a bit of natural healthy fat here and there.

The problem is, is that most of us don’t just eat a “little natural fat here and there” we are eating way too much processed foods and saturated fats. If we stick to eating real, whole foods that are grown out of the ground and natural, we would get fuller easier, and not have the need to keep eating crap all the time. I think this is how skinny people eat. They eat what they want, when they want but they eat healthy real foods.

Make sure you buy the book for this one. There is a lot of free information out there on the Dukan diet but it is not complete or even not all acurate. Even the offcial website is not totally complete and functional. This diet is very easy to understand and I love the fact that it gives you a solution to keep the weight off forever. I have lost 10 lbs in 3 weeks and am very happy with that. It is very motivating to see continued results after the first week. I do feel comfortable that I can stick with this though all the phases that will keep me from gaining all the weight back. This is a good one!

This is a great diet. I’m losing weight the fastest I ever have in my life, and I’ve been on tons of diets. The Dukan Diet got me through 3 pounds already this month!

The Dukan diet is really easy as long as you’re motivated, but the moment that waves, you’re in deep water because everything gets thrown off very fast and easy. You need to be on your best game all the time to get everything out of this diet. I just can’t keep up that level of self discipline. Maybe I’m doing it wrong.

This is a diet that takes an awful lot of commitment. But when you’ve tried as many different diet programs and have been as unsuccessful as I have, then you’re ready to either commit or be committed haha. I have been sticking to this one for nearly three months (next week) and I can honestly say that I have never had results from any program like I have with the Dukan diet. It has not been easy, and at times I know that my motivation has been absolutely terrible because it does have a lot of limitations to it. But I have been able to overcome those struggles and the results are amazing. I’ve lost 15 pounds so far!
